 Tru Self Yoga

Meet your Self on the mat

About Me

After my first brush with yoga whilst I was a student back in 2001 putting me off yoga entirely for 7 years, I gingerly dipped my toe back into the yoga waters following a number of injuries from long distance running.

I initially stumbled across Buti Yoga online in 2010 as I was searching for a replacement cardiovascular activity that wouldn’t leave me injured all the time. Following falling in love with the transformational Buti practice I began to realize that Yoga could be so much more than just a physical practice so I sought out a Yoga Teacher Training course that would fit around my shifts as a Paramedic.

I went on to qualify as a 200HR RYT by completing the Seasonal Yoga Teacher course and registering with the Yoga Alliance  in 2016. As someone who has always felt happiest in nature and affected by the changing Seasons, finding Seasonal Yoga was like coming home. Knowledge from this course around Traditional Chinese Medicine, working with the 5 Elements plus the Tai Chi and Qigong influences many of the other classes that I teach.

As a paramedic I see the benefits that Yoga can bring to all. Wanting to help prevent children from becoming broken adults I trained in teaching Yoga to children in 2017 before a mini hiatus following the birth of my first child later that year.

Having used Buti in particular to get back into shape I jumped at the rare opportunity to certify to teach this style when the master trainers visited from America in 2018. I enjoyed this transformational Yoga so much that I completed further trainings in 2019 and 2020 to teach many of its other formats.

In recent times I have become more aware of the mental and physical need for balance within myself and completed both my Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Norman Blair and a Teaching Meditation Diploma with The British School of Meditation in early 2020. I feel these practices compliment the Foundations in Yoga Nidra course (now called The Total Yoga Nidra Immersion Experience) I completed with Dr Uma Dinsmore Tuli back in 2016.

My passion to show others how yoga can help them physically, mentally & spiritually is what motivates me to teach  Buti Yoga & Seasonal Yoga in Manchester. My experience in learning the hard way about life's energy balance  is what led me to create my ‘Recharge and Reset: From Yang to Yin’ Yoga class which combines the most useful parts of each of the trainings I have completed thus far.

BUTI YOGA

Sweat With Intension

Buti is an Indian Marathi word that means “the cure to something hidden away or kept secret”. This movement practice transforms the body from the inside out and offers those who partake in it a soulful journey to transformation. This class combines dynamic yoga asana with tribal dance movements, and deep abdominal toning. Using the beat of the music like an internal GPS to guide the movements of the body from deep stretches to heart beat elevating cardio bursts. The fusion of these elements within one hour improves strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness whilst bringing you to a state of Buti bliss by the end of the class.

SEASONAL YOGA

Evolution For Everyone

Seasonal yoga is a fusion of Hatha Yoga, T’ai Chi and qigong. As the energy of each season changes in nature, the energy in class will change to create a greater harmony between the practitioner, both mentally and physically, and the world around them. Classes include Pranayama (breath work), meditation, asana (posture practice) & relaxation & are suitable for all abilities. By focussing on a pair of bodily organs, an element, a colour, a scent and energy lines (meridians) specific to the particular Season, this yoga practice teaches us how to become more attuned with the world around us in an experiential way to create a sense of balance, contentment and rejuvenation for the whole being.
